ADHD And Dental Health

ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) is associated with poorer oral health, leading to increased risks of dental decay, gum disease, and dental trauma.
Common Oral Health Issues in ADHD

Increased Dental Caries: Children and adults with ADHD have a higher risk of developing cavities due to poorer brushing habits, high-sugar diets, and dry mouth caused by some medications.

Gingivitis and Periodontal Problems: Studies show a higher risk of bleeding gums and other signs of gum disease in children with ADHD.

Dental trauma: Increased impulsive behaviours and conditions like teeth grinding (bruxism) and nail-biting are common in individuals with ADHD and can lead to tooth wear and malocclusion (misaligned bite).

Dental Anxiety: People with ADHD are more likely to experience dental anxiety, which can make dental visits difficult.
