Your heart health might start in your mouth

Friday 20th March marks World Oral Health Day, a day dedicated to educating the public on the importance of good oral health for overall wellbeing, because health doesn’t exist in isolation.
Every part of your body is connected, and the state of one system often affects others. Your heart is no exception. Yet, many people do not realise that dental hygiene can often be a catalyst for other health issues, most notably, heart health.
Emerging evidence shows that the health of your gums and teeth can have a real impact on your cardiovascular system.
Poor oral hygiene and chronic gum disease have been linked to higher blood pressure, unhealthy cholesterol levels, systemic inflammation, and an increased risk of heart problems.
